El prestigioso Tour de Francia marcará un hito en su edición 2027 al iniciar por primera vez en la ciudad de Edimburgo, Escocia. Esta será la tercera vez en el siglo XXI que el Reino Unido acoge la Grand Départ, tras las ediciones de Londres en 2007 y Yorkshire en 2014.
La ronda masculina número 114 del Tour tendrá su etapa inaugural en la capital escocesa, mientras que la edición femenina también debutará en suelo británico, saliendo desde el mismo punto de partida. Este acontecimiento representa la primera ocasión en que ambas competiciones comparten su arranque en un país distinto a Francia.

El evento abarcará un total de seis etapas, tres correspondientes a cada categoría, que recorrerán Escocia, Gales e Inglaterra. Según informó UK Sport, esta distribución permitirá mostrar “la diversidad de paisajes británicos”, destacando la riqueza natural y cultural del territorio.
El director general del Tour de Francia, Christian Prudhomme, celebró esta colaboración entre las tres naciones británicas, destacando que el entusiasmo del público británico hará que esta edición sea “aún más especial”.
Por su parte, Lisa Nandy, ministra británica de Cultura, Deporte y Medios, subrayó que este acontecimiento reforzará la reputación del Reino Unido como anfitrión de grandes eventos deportivos internacionales, impulsando el turismo y dejando un “legado duradero” para atletas y aficionados.
